After getting beyond some initial intuitive hurdles, something like repo seems straightforward enough. And it can be in certain parts under certain circumstances. In reality, however, even repo is a tangled web of characteristics, needs, and dealer capacities. There isn’t just one repo market, but several intertwined into what appears to be a singular whole, if only because of the money dealers who attempt to make it that way. Here we examine what some of those complexities are and what they’re about.
